We sailed through the night Sunday and got to Nassau Monday morning. Most of us got off the ship to tour the town and see the shops, etc, in the morning. Rodgers announced to no one in particular as he stepped off the ship, "this is my second island," and he stopped there for a minute. I really think he was taking one of his "pictures" in his mind. I'm sure he'll remember it forever. As we were walking through the market area, Rodgers and Papa Fred got up on the stage to play the bongo drums with the natives who were performing. It was so much fun! We walked around and found a pirate store where Rodgers made his first and only purchase of the trip: a pirate map for $7.00. Kylie shopped in some other stores and ended up with a beautiful shell necklace. We ended our excursion with Rod scoring a couple Cuban cigars and a local beer while the rest of us hit Starbucks. WHAT??? Yup, it's true...
We headed back to the ship to eat, of course (we did a lot of that), then later that afternoon we went to the Atlantis for a tour. We got to see all they had to offer including a couple of their aquariums. That place is amazing!
The majority of Tuesday was spent at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas. We played on the beach...drank on the beach...ate on the beach...shopped on the beach...good times! Anchored just off the shore of the island was the actual ship they used in the filming of the Pirates of the Carribean movies! How cool is that? Rodgers loved it. Also seen on the island, but we would rather have been anchored off-shore: big rear ends in string bikinis and thongs...we just had to take a picture of one to share with you!
Wednesday was our day at sea. We all had a blast exploring the ship and participating in various activities. Every minute was packed with so many things to do! The kids loved the Mickey pool, and made lots of friends just swimming in there and going down the big water slide. Elijah loved the all day pizza, ice cream and cookies. His favorite activity: riding the elevators! He was just tall enough to reach all the buttons!!! He also liked walking through the art gallery, trying to climb the railings on the decks, and chasing all the Disney characters walking around to give them high-fives! He also fell in love with our waitress, Steph. Kylie got to meet the princesses, go to Neverland with Wendy, and go to the kid pajama party the last night with her brother. One of her favorite things was dressing for dinner each night.
I mentioned Steph, but haven't really talked about our meals yet. Steph and Anthony took care of us each night at dinner. We rotated around to the different dining rooms, but they came along with us. The food was out of this world. The menus were unique and elaborate with 5 new courses each night and different specialty coctails. Of course, our family did the wine package as well, so we got to try a bunch of new bottles, as well as some favorites. Each night I vowed not to eat as much as the night before, but it never worked.
The shows they had each night were amazing, and a little shorter than ones you would see on Broadway, which made them perfect for the children. I was truly amazed at all they could do on a ship! There was also a pirate theme party one night, but Eli and I didn't make it to that one. Thankfully the fireworks were on the other side of the ship and we slept right on through it!
The weather was beautiful! We couldn't have asked for a better vacation. It was so good to get away from the job hunt and the other stresses of life for a week of "relaxation" and celebration! Thank you, family, for a wonderful time!!! Great memories!
